The holidays are approaching, and it’s a great time to live at Springbank of Plainfield! Several area organizations have put together an incredible schedule of events to get you and your family in the spirit. Check out 9 that we are especially excited about!
1. Visit with Santa!
When: Saturday, November 28, 1-2:30 PM
Where: Plainfield Township Community Center 15014 S. DesPlaines St, Plainfield
Cost: $6 for residents ages 2 and up.
Bring your camera and give your kids the chance to meet the big man before he leaves for the North Pole to get his sleigh ready! Also enjoy a snack, drawing pictures, and writing a letter to Santa.
2. Candlelight Christmas in Plainfield
When: Saturday, November 28, 5-9PM
Where: Downtown Plainfield
Cost: Free
The Plainfield community will come together to kick off the season with carriage rides, letters to Santa, pictures with Santa, crafts, dance performances, the lighting of the Christmas Creche, and more.
3. Boy Scout Christmas Tree and Wreath Sale
When: Nov. 27-29 and Dec 5-6, 12-13.
Where: Plainfield Moose Lodge, 16310 S. Lincoln Hwy. (Rt. 30)
The Boy Scouts of Troop 91 will sell Balsam and Frasier Fur trees, plus fresh garlands and wreaths in the Crest Creek Plaza parking lot.
4. Green Village Series: It’s a Wrap
When: Monday, November 30, 7-8PM
Where: Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois St.
Cost: Free
Learn how to create your own low-cost wrapping paper, and build a toolkit of recycled papers, boxes, and accessories to create stunning low-cost gift wrap, cards, tags, and ribbons.
5. Naper Lights at Naper Settlement
When: November 27-December 31, Thursdays through Sundays, 5-9PM
Where: Naper Settlement 523 S. Webster St. Naperville, IL 60540
Cost: Free
Walk through holiday light displays, enjoy hot chocolate, and enjoy caroling with DuPage’s finest children’s choirs! Naper Settlement also has a few holiday-focused events, listed below!
6. Journey to the North Pole!
When: December 3 and 4, 5-8PM
Where: Four Seasons Park 22500 Lockport St. Plainfield
Cost: $7 per resident (ages 1 and up)
Take a fun wagon ride to the “North Pole!” Sing holiday carols, jingle bells that will be given to each child, and visit with Santa and his elf at arrival while you enjoy hot chocolate and snacks by a campfire.
7. Victorian Holiday Traditions at the Naper Settlement
When: December 5, 3-5PM
Where: Naper Settlement 523 S. Webster St. Naperville, IL 60540
Cost: $18 per person
Take a guided holiday-themed tour of the Martin Mitchell Mansion, enjoy a unique peppermint treat, and discover little known trivia about Christmas traditions like trees, ornaments, and the Christmas pickle. Stay after to enjoy the Naper Lights display. Registration required.
8. Santa’s Workshop, Presented by the Plainfield Park District
When: December 10, 6:30-8 PM
Where: Plfd Twp Community Center 15014 S. DesPlaines Street
Cost: $12 per person (resident)
Enjoy crafts, snacks, and games, and share your wish list with Santa! Every child will receive 1 photo with Santa, and parents can bring their camera for additional shots. Santa will wrap up the evening by reading a story.
9. Jingle Bell Jamboree at the Naper Settlement
When: Saturday, December 19, 3-9PM
Where: Naper Settlement 523 S. Webster St. Naperville, IL 60540
Cost: $7 adults and youth 13+, $5 Children
Enjoy live music by Chicago Sinfonietta’s Project Inclusion Ensemble and the Alena Quintet from Matea Valley High School. Decorate cookies in Mrs. Claus’s bakery, and summon Santa’s reindeer with a magical treat and tradition. And enjoy Naper Lights, a festive outdoor holiday light display!
